This Irish ballad by The High Kings gives me goose bumps! Makes me want to raise a glass to everyone I ever cared about. To hell with that dull "Auld Lang Syne." This is what I want to hear on New Year's Eve.
THE PARTING GLASS (HIGH KINGS VERSION)
Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all
CHORUS:
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy to you all

Good Heavens!!! I had chills AND THEN CAME THE BAGPIPES!!!
Are the High Kings like the King Singers?
Great post! I had never heard of "The Wailin' Jennys". What brought you to this song Carla? This is amazing. I like the Scottish RRrrr.
Kathy, I LOVE the bagpipes! And I've heard of the King Singers, but don't know much about them.I think they're British.
Herman, I think I found this High Kings video on Scott McKenzie's Facebook wall.
This is simply beautiful. The bagpipes add just the right touch.
I agree, George! And I've heard this song by other groups, but this one is my fav!
Wow....I certainly got more than I bargined for when I hit that play button. Extremely entertaining!
I was going through some old bookmarks when I ended up here. Guess I need to move you out of the "old bookmarks" catagory! :)
