First Monarch sighting of the year.
Male Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.
Female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. These girls are so pretty!
Little Pipevine Swallowtail.I don't do much blogging anymore because I spend so much time doing genealogy research. And lots and lots of time on Facebook. Fact is, I use Facebook as a mini-blog. It's where I post my pics and it's just so much easier than blogging. And I love to enter the photography contests. In many ways, Facebook has opened up a whole new world. And I love the fact that I'm back in touch with people I had not talked to in years. Wouldn't have happened without Facebook. In other news, I ended up in the emergency room a week ago. I have kidney stones. The emergency room doc said that the water in this rocky, hilly, mountainous place has lots of minerals that contribute to kidney stone formation. Great. I do drink filtered water, so maybe this was destined to happen anyway. Still going out every day to cat-sit and I'm feeling okay, but so far...nothing has passed but time. And I'm still full of rocks.

Hi Carla, Your photographs are excellent! So sorry you have those kidney stones, and hope you feel better pronto! I am thrilled to see your picture of the Monarch Butterfly. We had those in abundance where I used to live in Calif.
Beautiful photographs! And what a coincidence -- I was thinking of you yesterday when I was running around the back yard with a camera in my hand trying to get a photo of a butterfly!!
I'm on FB, too -- look under Kathryn Ariano.
I'm full of gall stones.
Thank you, Linda and Kathy. Linda, last year my yard was full of Monarchs in Aug.and Sept. So hopefully, you will see them in your yard soon. And Kathy, I've heard that gall stones are no picnic either. Hope you got your butterfly pic and I will find you on FB. :-)
Beautiful pictures of the butterflies! Hope you recover from the kidney stones soon.
Thank you, Mary!
You got some wonderful pictures of butterflies. I'm sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope you are soon feeling better.
Thank you, George!
I have to confess I have a special place in my heart for the Monarch. Such a regal creature!
But, then again, the swallowtails are really nice, too. I think they are the prettiest butterflies.
Here in Iowa we have a lot of Monarchs now. They lay their eggs on milk weed and have been flying around for a few weeks now.
Of course, we will see more in August and then in September or early October we see large flocks (is that the right word?) of them come through as they migrate south.
Great photos!! I enjoyed seeing these!
Hi Russell, I'm envious because so far I've only seen one Monarch here. Hopefully, there will be more next month. I love the Swallowtails also. They're beautiful and easy to photograph. And yes, I think flocks is the right word.
Beautiful pictures. I really don't know what I would do without Facebook either. I wouldn't have a clue what was happening with old friends and classmates. Even though my extended family is close we don't get together that often and without facebook they wouldn't be able to see all our pictures and keep up with our lives.
Yikes, the PAIN!!
Sorry you are experiencing this. They may pass and maybe not. Good luck!
Thanks, Phyl. So far the only severe pain I've had was on the night I went to the ER. But I know it could get bad at any time.
Such amazing butterflies. Funny thing is.. we don't seem to have many our way this year.
I have heard that kidney stones can be extremely painful. I am hoping you are done with them and feeling better soon.
Colleen, we don't seem to have the variety of butterflies this year that we normally get. Just lots of Swallowtails.
No pain yet. And I guess I'm still full of rocks.
